Nexus is, at its heart, an engineering company. We are enabling trusted identities for people and things, securing society and taking responsibility for the digitized world that’s emerging. We hire people with a broad set of technical skills (and from a wide variety of backgrounds) who want to make an impact on the journey we are on. Right now, we are looking for an IaC Architect to help us level up our Infrastructure Services.
We need some help! We have these really cool products, competent people and dedicated leaders. But we are not front runners (yet!) when it comes to IaC. And this is where you come in. You will have great freedom in the HOW but we have a very clear WHAT.
The guy who is hiring, is Henrik Hjelm, leader of our Infrastructure team (and a really good boss, HR is adding). This position is in our HQ at Telefonplan in southern Stockholm, but we are a global organization, and you will work with teams in Europe and India.
What will you be doing at Nexus?
You will enter as an architect for our IaC endeavors, and within this ad, Infra as Code will be mentioned A LOT. It’s not just because it’s a cool buzz word, but because there is just so many ways to fill 4000 characters when the message is pretty simple. You need to live, love and breathe IaC, and you need to have an annoying eagerness to spread this disease to everybody else as well. No matter if they want it or not. Resistance is futile, and you will be Ansimbilated (yes, that was supposed to be a boring pun, playing on the words of Ansible and assimilated).
If we are to be a bit serious, this will of course be a lot of hard work. You will be the one driving the architectural roadmap for our IaC design and to anchor this new way of working in the organization. We are a product company, and your mission is to ensure our ten development teams and our external needs are met within your platforms. Sometimes it’s hard to change how we are used to working.
We have started this journey, but we need more structure, more focus and more commitment going forward. You will be the platform owner of our SaaS platforms, and everything that comes with it.
You will also be part of the day-to-day Ops work in the Infra team. We are strong believers in all for one and one for all; we help each other out! On call might be part of this position.
Who are you?
Many roads lead to Rome, and it’s the same here. You can have acquired your expertise in many different ways, but let’s face it, there are two main paths here. Either you are an old school sys admin/infra engineer who has turned to coding or you are a coder who has realized that everything is just a matter of capacity in the end and learned the ancient wisdom of infrastructure as the one true, pure form of enlightenment. Either way, you need to be proficient in both arenas.
We know that this is a somewhat emerging field, but you should have hands-on experience in one or both of Ansible or Terraform, at least a couple of years, and you will be the go-to-guy for both technologies. A must have is that you have been responsible for cloud architecture before.
Other tech we use, and we hope/think you are comfortable with, are Azure DevOps and Azure in general (or at least some of the other big cloud services out there) and Kubernetes clustering and orchestration. You have an end-to-end perspective in everything you do.
We also think you have worked in a development-heavy organization before. If this within betting, fintech or security even better. Then you know about the importance of governance models, patching discipline, and the need for proper documentation.
So, in conclusion, this is a senior position. You will not only be technically responsible for your area and your platforms but will be heavily involved in everything from budgeting to presenting business cases to our CFO and CEO (and explain why Infra needs to be so darn expensive!). You will be a mentor for the team, so a lot of personal maturity is a must.
On a global level we are an English-speaking organization, and you will do fine with only near fluency in English, but you will live a more comfortable life if you also know at least some Swedish as well. Even though it’s not a requirement. What is a requirement, though, is a background check before joining (we are a security company after all).
